DAVID VINOKUR

Executive Director

David is the Chief Executive Officer of the Global Capital Group. He is  also the Chief Financial Officer of Universal Partners. David has more than 19 years of private equity experience. During his career, he has been instrumental in originating, structuring, concluding and exiting private equity transactions in a variety of industries and countries. He represents Universal Partners and Global Capital on the board of the underlying companies both locally and offshore, and assists with the strategic management of the investments.​

Following this David joined Global Capital in February 2004; his portfolio consists of a diverse range of private companies in a variety of industries.

David holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and Bachelor of Accounting degree from the University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa), and is a Chartered Accountant (South Africa).

JOE MTHIMUNYE

Chief Executive Officer

Joe is the Executive Chairman of aloeCap. He is one of the founder directors of aloeCap. He has more than 25 years investment banking experience. Prior to aloeCap, he was one of the founding partners of Gobodo Inc.; an accounting practice that became SNG Grant Thorton. He led the Management Buy-out of aloeCap from Gobodo Inc in 1999.

Joe was involved in the establishment of the aloeCap BEE Private Equity Fund; and all private equity investments undertaken and structured by the aloeCap Private Equity team. He is a past member of the Securities Regulation Panel (now Takeover Regulation Panel) and the PAAB (IRBA) Education Committee.

He is currently the Chairman of Cell C; and an Independent non-executive Director of Blue Label and Dis-Chem. Joe holds a B. Comm. from the University of Zululand, a B. Compt. Hons/CTA from UNISA; and is a qualified Chartered Accountant (South Africa).

THULANI NZIMAKWE

Executive Director

Thulani is an Executive Director and one of the founder directors of aloeCap. He was part of the Management Buy-out team that bought aloeCap from Gobodo Inc. in 1999. He has more than 25 years of investment banking experience.

Thulani advised on Anglo American’s two key BEE transactions involving Johnnic (Industrial Assets) and JCI (Mining) during his term at Anglo American Corporate Finance. These were among the ground-breaking transactions in the early stages of BEE in the late 1990s. At Anglo he was also part of the team that provided management support when Botswana Ash was bought out of liquidation.

At aloeCap Thulani has been involved as a principal advisor on a number of investment banking transactions – including MTN, Neotel, Nextcom, Onetel, Impala Platinum, SASOL, Transnet Housing, SASRIA, Foskor, ACSA, etc. Thulani holds a B. Comm. and  B. Acc. From Wits; and is a qualified Chartered Accountant (South Africa).

ATTLEE MASUKU

Executive Director

Prior to joining aloeCap, Attlee worked at various local investment banking groups; and spent several years on Wall Street with one of the international investment banks. 

On his return from New York he joined aloeCap and participated in the Management Buy-out of aloeCap in 1999. He established the aloeCap BEE Private Equity Fund, which has participated in a number of significant transactions across various sectors. 

He is responsible for all our capital structuring and capital raising strategies within aloeCap. 

He is a past member of the JSE Alt X Listings Committee.

Attlee holds a B. Comm., B. Comm. (Hons) in Advanced Business Finance from Wits; and a Management Development Program certificate from the University of New York.

DORON FALK

Group Financial Manager

Doron joined Global Capital in 2016 as Group Financial Manager,  where he oversees the finance function for various portfolio  companies. Doron also serves as financial manager for Universal  Partners Limited, an investment holding company listed on the  Stock Exchange of Mauritius and the JSE AltX.

​After completing his articles at PKF, Doron was financial manager at The Prepaid Company (Pty) Ltd,  a subsidiary of Blue Label Telecoms Limited, a role he held for  five years. He was  subsequently appointed as Group Financial Manager of DNI and  Richmark Holdings, both investment holding companies.

​Doron is a Chartered Accountant. He holds a Bachelor of  Accounting from the University of the Witwatersrand, South  Africa.

ORI SHUSHAN

Associate

Ori joined Global Capital in March 2016 as an associate. His  primary focus is on deal origination, execution and driving  growth strategies in portfolio companies. Prior to joining Global  Capital, Ori worked for Investec Bank where he completed his  articles and subsequently joined the Investec Corporate Finance  team, where he was involved in numerous M&A and capital  markets transactions.

Ori is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered  Accountants and placed tenth nationally for the final qualifying  exam. Ori is a Chartered Accountant. He holds a Bachelor of Accounting  degree (with distinction) and a Bachelor of Accounting Science  Honours from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.

STEPHEN KOSEFF

Stephen Koseff is the Investec Group’s former chief executive officer. In addition to his directorships of Investec Ltd, Investec plc and various other Investec subsidiaries, he is a non-executive director of the South African Banking Association.

Stephen’s previous roles include: Former chairman of the South African Banking Association, former non-executive director of The Bidvest Group Limited, former director of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, former member of the Financial Markets Advisory Board, former chairman of the Independent Bankers Association.

Stephen is a qualified chartered accountant, holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and a Higher Diploma in Business Data Processing. He is the recipient of numerous awards including: 1990 Jewish Businessman of the Year, 1992 Top 5 Businessmen of the Year, 1996 Business Day Business Achievement Award, 2003 Jewish ABSA Achievement Award – Listed Companies, 2003 Moneyweb CEO of the Year, 2004 Finalist Moneyweb CEO of the Year, 2005 Finalist Moneyweb CEO of the Year, 2006 GIBS Social Entrepreneurship award ‘benefactor’ category, 2009 Sunday Times Lifetime Achievers Award, 2014 Southern Africa Master Entrepreneur Winner at the EY World Entrepreneur – Awards, 2017 Honorary Doctor of Commerce Degree by the University of Witwatersrand.

MODULA MOFOLO

Co-founder and Managing Director of SummerPlace Equity Partners (Pty) Ltd – a 100% female owned and led private equity fund manager.

Former Investment Executive at WDB Investment Holdings (Pty) Ltd (WDBIH) charged with driving the strategy for, implementing, and managing the mid-cap private equity investment portfolio – a completely new asset class for WDBIH. Also responsible for overseeing the management of the WDBIH Enterprise Development Fund, which is managed by a third-party fund manager.

Former Managing Director at Utho Capital Fund Managers (Pty) Ltd managing the Utho Capital SME Infrastructure Fund, a small niche fund mandated to finance SMEs in the infrastructure development sector, with a special focus on construction and property development.

Former Executive Director at Musa Capital Fund Managers (Pty) Ltd responsible for Group Funds focused on financing both mid-cap and SME enterprises.

Joined Khula Enterprise Finance Ltd (now Sefa) as Legal Advisor & Compliance Officer in 2005,where she facilitated the conclusion of significant Private Public Partnerships between Khula and select prominent private and public sector players within the SME funding space.

She holds a Master’s degree in Development Finance (Cum Laude), LL.B, and B.A. (Law) degrees attained in 2014, 1999 and 1997 respectively. Served Articles at Webber Newdigate Attorneys Inc. Admitted to the bar in 2000.

Combined investment and commercial legal advisory experience in financial services spans over 18 years.

Numerous years of experience as Investment Committee and Advisory Board member of numerous investment funds, including IDF Capital, Sanari Capital, and Utho Capital Fund Managers, inter alia.

Board experience: current independent non-executive board member at Merchant West Holdings (Pty) Ltd (member of the Audit Committee and chair of the Social Ethics Committee). She is also a non-executive director of Counterpoint Asset Management (subsidiary of Merchant West). Modula is also a member of the Transformation Sub-Committee of the Southern African Venture Capital

and Private Equity Association (SAVCA).

SINDI ZILWA

Sindi Zilwa qualified as the second black woman Chartered Accountant in South Africa in 1990 and co-founded Nkonki from 1993. She led the firm as CEO from 1998 until retirement through a management buyout in October 2016.

As a retired entrepreneur in the Accounting and Auditing profession, Sindi is a Chartered Director as certified by the Institute of Directors in 2016.

Sindi is the published Author of 2 books, The ACE Model –Winning Formula for Audit Committees published in 2013 and the “Board Committee Effectiveness Model” published in 2016.

As a Professional Director, Sindi is a board member of Discovery Limited, Aspen Limited and Metrofile Limited. Her unlisted company boards include Mercedes Benz SA, Tourvest Group, Cell C and Gijima Limited.

Her other qualifications include Advanced Diploma in Taxation from Unisa, Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning from UOFS and the Higher Diploma in Banking from UJ.

Sindi is also one of the founder members of AWCA (African Women Chartered Accountants), which was formed in order to advance the success of women in the Accounting Profession. She remains an active member of the Advisory Council of AWCA.

LARRY NESTADT

Larry is the Executive Chairman of Global Capital. He has a long  and successful global corporate career. He is a co-founder and  former Executive Director of Investec Bank Limited. Larry has  been instrumental in the creation and strategic development of a  number of listed companies including Capital Alliance Holdings  Limited (Capital Alliance Life- acquired by Liberty Life; Capital  Alliance Bank – now Brait), Super Group Limited, HCI Limited, SIB  Holdings Limited and CorpGro Limited. He also served as past  Chairman on the boards of these companies. Previously, Larry sat on the  boards of Softline Limited, JCI Limited and Abacus Technologies  Holdings Limited.

Further he has been a former Chairman on a number of non-listed company boards; both in South Africa and abroad including: Stenham Limited (UK) and Prefsure Life Limited (AUS). Larry is the current Chairman of Universal Partners and the current  Chairman of Blue Label Telecoms Ltd, Dis-Chem Pharmacies  Ltd, National Airways Corporation (Pty) Ltd, the Morecorp Group,  Melrose Motor Investments (Pty) Ltd and SellDirect Marketing  (Pty) Ltd. He also serves as Deputy Chairman of Cell C (Pty) Ltd.

Larry is a life member of the World Presidents Organisation,  Lloyds of London (since 1983) and is an Honorary Colonel in the South African Air Force.

GEOFFREY QHENA

Geoff worked for the IDC in various capacities for more than 20 years. He spent at least a year as a CFO; and was then promoted to Group CEO – a position he held for 14 years until the end of 2018.

As IDC CEO, Geoff participated in various World Economic Forums (WEF) hosted in Africa. He also attended numerous sessions in Davos, Switzerland and Tianjin, China.

In 2016, Geoff was awarded the order of civil merit for non-Spanish citizens, for helping promote the trade relations between Spain and South Africa, by the King of Spain. The recognition was handed by the Ambassador of Spain in South Africa.

Geoff has also held non-executive directorships in Saldanha Steel, Foskor, Steinmuller Africa and NEF. Geoff holds a Bachelor of Accounting Science and Honours in Bachelor of Accounting Science degree from the UNISA (South Africa); and is a Chartered Accountant (South Africa).

Geoff also holds a Senior Executive Programme (jointly offered by Harvard Business School and Wits Business School.); and an Advanced Tax Certificate from UNISA.
